Fishing Stories

Had a Blast!

A recent fishing trip to northern Manitoba brought friends together for an unforgettable adventure.

After flying into Winnipeg from Santa Fe, the group drove about two hours north to the float plane base at Matheson Island, where they spent the first night in comfort before heading out to the remote wilderness.

The following morning, they boarded a De Havilland “Otter,” a 9-cylinder radial-engine float plane, for the flight to Longish Lakes, about 60 miles north. The plane carried a total payload of roughly 1,500 lbs., plus fuel. The pilot dropped them off and returned three days later, leaving them completely on their own in the wilderness.

At the camp, they found a cabin equipped with a propane refrigerator, cook-top, and photo-voltaic lighting — truly a remote location, likely 100 miles from the nearest fence post.

The group, including Ingela, Sofia, and Michael, enjoyed incredible fishing, catching more fish than they could handle and cooking them over the campfire.

Cheers,
John
